22 Years of Glories — Dual Olympics in China Witnessed Artron’s Passion to the Homeland
On July 13, 2001, Samaranch solemnly announced, “The host city of the 2008 Summer Olympics is Beijing.” His voice ignited the passion of whole China.

The “Gold Key” – The Beijing’s Presentation to Host the 2008 Olympics that opened this carnival was “forged” by Artron.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that the IOC members eligible to vote may not visit the candidate cities for investigation, instead of making decision relying on the presentation submitted by each candidate city. Therefore, this presentation was crucial to present the urban style, social progress and economic development of Beijing, so it was known as a “Gold Key” to the successful application to host the Olympics.
The opportunity of history and the challenge of the times handed over the task of “forging” this heavyweight Gold Key to Artron.
On the night of January 9, 2001, Artron started an arduous battle of four days and four nights. From design to process, and from printing to binding, Artron tailored this presentation based on China’s actual conditions and the background of the times.
“From January 9 to 13, as long as there was a link that went wrong or the printing of the Presentation was delayed, we might miss the opportunity.” Wan Jie, chairman of Artron, described the heavy duty on shoulders, “Every person in Artron should realize that printing the Beijing’s Presentation to Host the 2008 Olympics would be an honor for us all our lives.”
At 6:00 p.m. of January 13, at the Artron Conference Room in Shenzhen, Wan Jie opened a gold-cloth solander case with the Olympic rings printed by bronzing process, and there were three volumes inside. The cover of the Presentation was printed with Chinese traditional palace wall red, which looked extremely noble. When Wan Jie handed the Beijing’s Presentation to Host the 2008 Olympics of 596 pages and 5.6kg to Sun Daguang, then Deputy Secretary General of the BOBICO, the audience burst into warm applause.

On January 17, 2001, Wang Wei, Secretary General of BOBICO, Sun Daguang, Deputy Secretary General of BOBICO, and other leadership of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee escorted the Presentation to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.
With this Presentation which reached the peak of perfection, Artron helped Beijing win the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games at a brush.

Since the Beijing’s Presentation to Host the 2008 Olympics, Artron assumed multiple important tasks assigned by the BOCOG.
In 2005, Artron printed the posters and brochures of the Beijing Olympic mascot – Fuwa. In July, 2008, Artron printed the Program List and the Media Guide for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
A staff of Artron who participated in the project of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games recalled, “After receiving the printing task, we were excited and stressed. By then, we quickly established a confidentiality project team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with collaborative teams for information security, cultural publicity, business administrative services, production process and quality monitoring, product delivery, etc. After formally moving into the production process, we had less than half a month to finish the printing of tens of thousands of books. In this half month, we had not only to print, but also complete the hardcover, which was all hand-made, so our workload was very heavy. However, everyone in this project team was not slacking off, but went ahead and carried it together! ”

In 2008, the grand Beijing Olympic Games opened. The Program List also won the highest honor in the world’s printing industry – the Benny Award, which is known as the Oscar in the printing industry, and became a good collection of the Olympics fans.

In 2015, Artron printed the Beijing’s Presentation to Host the 2022 Winter Olympics. Until that moment, the Shanghai’s Presentation to Host the Expo 2010, the Shenzhen’s Presentation to Host the Universiade and the Shenzhen’s Presentation to Host the Design Capital were all printed by Artron – which made Artron a “Specialist” in the printing of presentation books.
For Artron team, this was a relatively easy task. The secret of “Easy” is that Artron has formed a complete operation mechanism with its rich experience in the printing of presentation books for many times. Artron has formulated a standard instruction manual and a special Process Specification, which has a set of standardized systems for the organizational structure, staffing, material selection and machine using of large projects.

At this point, Artron has already become a “Qualification Enterprise for State Confidential Carrier Printing” and a “Support Enterprise for Serving the Core Functions of the Capital”. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics coincided with the Chinese traditional Spring Festival. When the horn of support service sounded, the staff of Artron stopped their steps of going home.
The task of support service for this Winter Olympics was still arduous. When the document of confidential requirements from the state was delivered to Artron, the time left for the special team was very urgent. There were more than 30 layers of colors in the design documents of the Program List. In order to interpret the design well, Artron team had independently adjusted each individual layer in the proofing process, and launched the unique linked color management system of Artron.
In terms of binding, despite of using professional top-level glue, the glue was too wet, the paper absorbed water, and it was easy to warp. In addition, the time was very urgent, so dehumidification could not be finished in 48 hours. To solve this problem, the team worked day and night. After multiple limit tests and one-to-one communication with the customers, the team finally decided on a solution – screen scraping, which reduced the amount of glue by 50%, and solved the problem perfectly.

Eventually, more than 100 workers of Artron fulfilled their mission again in trial and exploration, subversion and innovation, and successfully achieved the printing of invitation cards and Program Lists for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.
